white candle heart thumping

In my sorority, we have something called a White Candle Ceremony whenever one of our members gets lavaliered, engaged, married, or pregnant. A pretty white candle is passed around while we sing a song, and whomever is the lucky lady blows out the flame at the appropriate time (1st round - lavaliered, 2nd round - engaged, etc).

I have waited my entire collegiate experience for the moment when I get to have MY very own white candle ceremony! It’s something important enough for me to keep a secret so that I can have mine. While I don’t know when or how or at what point I’ll get engaged, but the prospect of having a white candle makes my heart beat a million times a minute. I’m serious. Even if I’m just thinking about it, my heart goes off on its own little drum rhythm for a good ten minutes. Goodness gracious!

And the funny part? I think it’s been this way for a good long while now. Perhaps the closer I get (as time goes on) the thumpier my heart gets. Mmm.
